Sonic

First off I'm going to say, yes, yes this post does have to do with reproduction. I'm sorry I just can't stay away from the stuff. In my defense, it has to do more with development than reproduction specifically, and it is a topic I was studying for my exam tomorrow morning. This isn't going to be a very long post as its late, my exams at 8am, and I still need to go get a shower; however, I found this amusing and maybe you will too.

Sonic the Hedgehog is not just the crazy blue character of video games and comics. No, Sonic Hedgehog is much more important. Look at your digits (and I don't mean your phone or your keyboard! come now...) and think a bit. Thats right, Sonic Hedgehog plays an important role in organogenesis and the development of digits on limbs and the organization of the brain. The gene is actually named after the lovable cartoon character, based on the genes mutant form resulting in embryos covered in small projections called denticles, making them look very similar to hedgehogs.

Not only is this a serious gene, but how pissed would you be if you were an expecting parent and your Dr. told you your child would have a Sonic Hedgehog mutation? I'd be pretty mad.

Now knowing what it is I think we all would be upset.
