Mrs Jean was one of the most inspirational, good hearted people I have ever met. She was a ray of light in this sometimes very dark world. It is because of Mrs. Jean that I take part in the Relay For Life. Originally we took part in the even to celebrate that she was still alive and battling the breast cancer that returned after a thirteen-year remission. Now we take part in her memory, and in her honor. Its been quite a few years since we first started participating in the Woodbridge Relay For Life, and since then I've been on numerous different teams, and in many different leadership positions- from assistant team captain, to team captain, to a member of the youth committee and in charge of the Survivor dinner and goody-bags.
But in all that time, with all that work I've done, I feel like over the years I've gotten away from the reason I started doing Relay. To honor the miraculous woman I grew up admiring. This year, although I've spent a lot of time away from Relay activities- I want to focus more on Mrs. Jean's memory and less on the money and the hassle. I really want to make this year about the survivors, and about being there for each other. I hope that can happen.
